Fortigate VM installation

Hi All,

Have you ever tried to install fortigate Virtual Machine? Here are few steps that will show you how to install Fortigate VM on Vmware. This is extremely helpful when you have to learn or try a new scenario before implementing on a real Fortigate.

Step 1: Download Fortigate VM into a folder.

Step 2:There will be OVF file named Fortigate-VM. Double click on that. This will open a OVF file in Vmware workstation and it will import VM to Vmware.

Step 2:Once imported fortigate VM will be in powered off condition. As you can see in the settings I will have 1 GB of RAM. You can also see a list of virtual adaptors.

Step 3: Click on first network adaptor ,this will open settings window. Select First adaptor. It will be in bridged state change it into ‘host only’. There will be drop down below ‘host only’ option. From that select ‘VMnet1(Host Only)’.Click on ok.

Now Open Adaptors from your systems control panel. Here you can see ‘VMnet1’ adaptor. Give manual IP address to this adaptor.

IP address : 192.168.1.170

Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Click OK.

Now we are going to configure VM.to begin start the VM in Vmware Workstation.

Step 4: It will take a minute to boot. Once booted you will get a screen as shows below. It will ask for username and password prompt. User name is admin and there is no password.

Once you logged in then interfaces have to be configured.

Type in following commands:

That’s it!

You completed your Fortigate VM setup. Go to your browser type in 192.168.1.79 and hit enter. You will be greeted with login page.
